Tradition

This is how the mountaineers looked some 100 years ago...

The picture shows Hans Grossen (with rope) and me during the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Balmhorn hut near Kandersteg, Switzerland

Back in 1908, when the Jungfraubahn was still under construction, the tourists were already amazed about the fact that a railway could be built inside the mountain all the way up to 3454m. This old postcard from my collection shows the station "Eismeer".
The Vitznau-Rigibahn was the first cog railway in Switzerland opened on  May 21, 1871.
The Brünigpass railway is the only narrow gauge railway run by the SBB.
This is how a mountainguide looked like at the turn of teh previous century. On the background the Dufourspitze can be recognised.
The wild Rosenlaui valley, near Meiringen has always been a popular destination. The view towards the Wellhorn and Wetterhorn is breathtaking.
